The Bible is a book of truths; God's word is truth. (John 17:17). Searching for truth in the Bible is really about finding truth that will transform our lives and give us the protection and promised abundant life.
As we look around the world, we see wars and rumors of wars, famine, drought, poverty, rioting, and people with cold hearts doing things to family and strangers that make us shake our head in unbelief that this could happen in our time and community. God said in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 that these things would come when people ignored His word. Jesus said these things would come before his second coming. The abundant life comes from obedience and honoring His word as truth.
There are more places of worship in the world now than probably any time in history. We have Bible teaching from a variety of religions and denominations on television and radio. Print media comes in many sizes and periodicals abound; and we still cannot find the truth in the Bible to bring the salvation we want. We know the Bible is true; but was life meant to be so stressful and such a drama? What are we missing in our search for truth in the Bible?
The Bible speaks against going after riches, pride, vanity, and exalting one above another. We have taken the word of God too lightly. We think competition is good in business, play, and our homes. We do not recognize how important God considers His every word, so we think according to our light conversations. Our words are often just something to say for conversation. We judge God's word according to our words. If we were specific about His word, our conversations would be more specific and powerful like His. We would be speaking His word and He would be following us around with signs and wonders, showing Himself strong on our behalf, as He promised.
Remember, God placed man in a garden to dress and keep it; it was sin that took us out of the garden. When we left the garden, some people started to make inventions and cities to make a name for themselves; and it has continued like that ever since. In our modern days we do not find the abundant life. We find abundant things that bind us to employment, education, and debt and separate us from our family. We search for means to pay for luxuries we don't have much time to enjoy.
The powerful truth we are searching for in the Bible is that we belong in a garden where we can have true freedom. We were delivered from bondage. The sacrifices and offerings in God's ceremonial laws that God commanded to be memorials forever were meant to keep us close to the land where God could grow all our needs. Our families were to stay together in the same geographic location and we would have food growing on trees, bushes, vines and plants. Our animals would be useful for giving milk and eggs, providing transportation or bearing burdens, and providing useful things for our family.
In every generation, the abundant life was hidden behind pride and vanity and an expectation that God needed currency to supply our needs. Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 are powerful truths that show God's promise to give rain in due season to those who love and honor His wisdom. They also show us what we should have expected to received for disregarding His truth; it would have been our warning to avoid destroying ourselves..
The world searches for truth that can conquer the world problems we created by ignoring His word. Solutions to the energy crisis, food crisis, pollution, global warming, war, immigration, social security, health care, child care and education are all found in the retirement lifestyle of a garden paradise. Jesus said, "Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30). Searching for truth in the Bible brings the salvation we are looking for, and so much more.
