Searching for truth in the Bible

by Marie Devine

Created on: May 04, 2008

The Bible is a book of truths; God's word is truth. (John 17:17). Searching for truth in the Bible is really about finding truth that will transform our lives and give us the protection and promised abundant life.

As we look around the world, we see wars and rumors of wars, famine, drought, poverty, rioting, and people with cold hearts doing things to family and strangers that make us shake our head in unbelief that this could happen in our time and community. God said in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 that these things would come when people ignored His word. Jesus said these things would come before his second coming. The abundant life comes from obedience and honoring His word as truth.

There are more places of worship in the world now than probably any time in history. We have Bible teaching from a variety of religions and denominations on television and radio. Print media comes in many sizes and periodicals abound; and we still cannot find the truth in the Bible to bring the salvation we want. In our modern days we do not find the abundant life. We find abundant things that bind us to employment, education, and debt and separate us from our family. We search for means to pay for luxuries we don't have much time to enjoy.

The powerful truth we are searching for in the Bible is that we belong in a garden where we can have true freedom. We were delivered from bondage. The sacrifices and offerings in God's ceremonial laws that
