Guide to Google AdSense

What is Adsense?

Adsense is a wonderful advertising idea that Google came up with some time back. Though new advertising ideas keep coming up all the time, this one is something that is altogether different. Adsense ads come in a few different forms such as link text blocks, video, and images.

How does it work?

This one can be a bit more difficult to explain. Advertisers pay Google by the click to have their ad displayed through Adwords. You, the website owner, will have Google pay you to have those ads displayed on your website by people clicking on the ads. Google has to make some money you know.

Adsense is revolutionary because this small amount of code that you get from the Adsense website, magically will display ads that are relevant to your content. This takes labor out of both the advertiser and website owner. No longer will they need to search, as Google does this for them.

How will it work for me?

You have control over how the ads are displayed on your website, from different colors, to sizes, and even which ads you would like. There are a few schools of thought on how the ads should look. Some like the ads to stand out bright and bold so the viewers will notice them. The other side of the fence believes the ads should blend seamlessly into the design of the site. It is all up to you.

So, you probably want to know how you will be paid. Well, each click you will be paid, however, not every click is treated the same. Some keywords are worth more than others. The Adwords advertisers fight for positioning by bidding on the keyword. This could mean BIG bucks for you as the website owner if you have content on your site that is about a high paying keyword.

I don't want to advertise my competition!

Not a problem. With the Adsense admin panel, you can block certain sites from showing up on your site. So, if you are selling spa products, you will be able to block your competitions ads, so your visitors will not be led to your competition. This is important if you are selling a physical product from your site.

Adsense is a good way to advertise on your website without the hassle of trying to find advertisers. The ads will be relevant to your content which will make your visitors more willing to click your ads. Even if you are selling a product to your visitors, you can still make a stream of income through advertising.
