Do guardian angels exist?

by Melody Watson

Created on: May 04, 2008

I believe we all have gaurdian angels. Many of us can feel them around us, some of us even see them, and few that I've talked to have even met them.

I was five months pregnant when I met one. This pregnancy had been rough so far. There had been several close calls. Both my family doctor and my gynecologist believed this would end in a miscarriage. In the very least, I probably wouldn't carry this baby full term and the doctor was preparing for complications. I was ordered to reduce my stress levels, so I tried relaxing as much as I could considering I was very ill and tense during the whole pregnancy.

I was about to become a single mother and that alone was enough to stress me out. I had moved back in with my parents to save some money to buy a house. My parents did a lot to help ease my tension. My mom catered to me in every way she could. When I had a craving, she would run to store. If I was exhausted after a long day of work, she would draw me a bath and make me supper. My father decided that taking a break from the everyday would help so we all went on a vacation together.

We drove out to Vancouver Island in their motor home. Every morning, my father would make me breakfast and take me shopping. He was wonderful during this time. Their vacation was set for three weeks and I only had two weeks off, so they flew me home at the end of my stay.

I was never a big fan of flying to begin with but being pregnant and paranoid at this point didn't help. Just after the plane took off, I began to hyperventilate. The fear of flying overwhelmed me, making it very hard to breath. There was a man sitting in the seat beside me, which I had barely noticed. He leaned towards me and put his hand on top of mine. A feeling of peace and love swept over me. My breathing calmed and the fear faded.

After switching planes in Vancouver, the same man was in the seat next to me. He held my hand during the entire flight to Calgary. There was nothing for me to do but sit and breath in the tranquility. After we landed and began to leave the plane, all I wanted to do was thank this man for comforting me on the trip. I was one of the first off the plane so I waited in the walkway for him. I waited and watched while every passenger walked by me.

He never did. I went back to look for him but he was gone. Standing in the doorway of that plane, I knew. The man was never really there. God had sent an angel to protect me and my unborn child. I had to fight the tears of joy from rolling down my face. I had never felt so blessed.

My little girl was born three months later, as healthy as can be. Thank you Lord.
