Who Stole the Honors? Every year our Fourth of July Picnic Eve began at 6 o'clock in the evening at the Spartenville State Park.
Today, Sergeant Crawford pinned the soldiers for their bravery and courage.
"I look forward to the day when I get my Honor in front of the whole town, Mama," whispered Little John.
"Shh! The ceremony is starting, said Mama, and it's a Medal of Honor not just honor, John.
The soldiers marched in as they carried a banner that read, "Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines We are here to serve you."
After they were seated, Sergeant Crawford got up and walked to the podium. A policeman walked briskly over and whispered something into his ear. The look on his faced said bad news. We sat there with our "I wonder" faces on.
Sergeant Crawford announced, "There will be no pinning ceremony today. Someone has stolen our valuable Medals of Honor."
"This was the Honors day for our soldiers and what happens? The Honors are stolen," Little John grumbled.
"The only ones who had access to the medals were Mayor Fred C. Lancerlot, Mrs. Frances Cole the town clerk, Policeman Manually, and yours truly," thought the Sergeant.
"A thief!" said a voice from the crowd.
"Yeah, let's string em up!" shouted another voice.
"Naw, stringing's too good for em. Let's lock em in Paw's chicken coop all night. That'll scramble his brains!" shouted a woman from the crowd.
"No, now please! This will not help in any way, folks," said the Sergeant.
"I will get the detective on it right now."
He dismissed the crowd and walked hurriedly off the platform to talk with a detective.
Little John began to get an idea of his own as he looked around. The town grown-ups got into a huddle to plan what they would do. The children were let sitting.
Little John beckoned for the other children to come over to where he and Azcar were sitting.
"We could capture this thief ourselves, return the Honors and still have a happy Fourth if we all work together," urged Little John.
Little John had a plan. The children sat down on the bleachers while Little John introduced his plan.
The children would be split into 4 groups. Azcar pointed to each group and numbered them from one to four. If they encounter trouble, one child in the group was to blow a large whistle three times. The other children would come to help them out.
"Now, group 1, you have the North Side Hills, group 2, you have the Southside of Town, group 3, you have the Eastern Trail, and my group, group 4, we will head out for the Western Cabins."
"You are to all meet
