EQUUS QUAGGA
Gone from earth for more than a century
Hunted to extinction because of Man's greed
How many of us know of you today?
When we think of zebra
We think in black and white
Mostly ignorant of your past existence
Your beautiful coat of rust and cream
A half-striped anomaly in a world that only knows
Your bar-coded brethren.
Echoing hoofbeats ring out from the past
Asking us to remember- to notice the incredible diversity
Of God's amazing creativity; and the works of His hands.
For reasons known only to Him
The Master Artist chose
To paint you so differently!
But some hope still remains
You are making a comeback
Through selective breeding and people who care
And once again in Africa
We may someday see shades of rust and cream
Amongst the black and white.

You know, I venture not to gripe,
Except your ever-changing stripe

Lovely in person
Oh how I wish to be
As free

Are they black with white?

This is a Haiku.
As i travel on this sarfari truck

at all these wonderful wild animals are can see
