Racial inequality or oppression: Do they truly exist in today's society?

is a frequent comment. As we all know, just because we have a law relating to an issue does not mean it is solved, or even enforced by the authorities. If we recall, the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to our constitution were designed to bring blacks up to par with their fellow citizens, rights-wise. However, it would be another hundred years before the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's before certain rights were finally addressed. I don't know about you, fellow white people, but if my family had been promised something important, and had special constitutional amendments passed to fix those issues but we didn't receive what we were due for several more generations of discrimination, murder, rape and intimidation, I would most certainly be an angry man. I may not agree with the most egregious claims that Rev. Wright made about conspiracy theories, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to discern the fact that thousands of incidents perpetrated against a people will make them angry. There still exists severe racism and oppression in this land, and it is a shirt we don't look very good in. The only way to change it, however, is to get the left arm and the right arm to agree to shuck it and put on a clean shirt. We deserve a new one: this last one has old, dried blood all over it.
