As a person who refuses to don the term "Atheist", I find both being labeled by religious people as Atheist, and religion itself, offensive.
People use their' religion as a way to get out of the law on a day-to-day basis, and it dictates how they should live their' lives.
Guess what? There's this other thing. It's called "Law".
And you can go to jail if you don't follow it.
While not every law is perfect, I believe that regardless, people should have to follow it.
You should have to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.
Having children with your' daughter, or having seventeen wives is wrong.
Abortion is not only a necessary choice, sometimes, but it's also an effective method of population control.
Attacking countries, so you can fix their' FRONT yards, while your' back yard is in rubble is bad politics.
These are things that a few religions can't seem to agree with me upon. The last one is just an insult at George Bush, and that nonsense in Iraq, while he ignores health care, a failing infrastructure, etc. etc. etc.
And then of course, we traverse the fragile, and nauseatingly politically correct path of "Racism", and "Discrimination", both terms commonly thrown around in incorrect contexts.
Demanding that everyone has to wear a helmet, to protect their' head, from oncoming traffic, while riding a motorcycle is not Racism, or Discrimination. It's a tool designed to save people's lives.
Having Children with Children is simply wrong. They haven't even had a full childhood yet. In some belief-systems, women are wed to significantly older men at as young an age as 13((and possibly younger than that.)). THIRTEEN. When I was thirteen, I was playing Pokemon cards, and thought girls had cooties. When my sister was thirteen, she was playing with barbies, and thought that the only guys who were cute were those guys from N'Sync.
Abortion, is just necessary sometimes. Not every child can be cared for. Crack-addicted babies are the perfect example of this. Another excellent example is a child from the product of rape, and perhaps the best example, is when the parent, or parents, are incapable of providing for their' child. And don't give me that crap about "Adoption", because at current, in north America alone, over half a MILLION kids are awaiting to be adopted in group homes, and are treated as less than pond scum, merely a paycheck, and a punching bag/ashtray.
While these are things people are more than welcome to debate about, the only ethical reason to debate them, is because such statements go against your' religious beliefs.
Religion has caused many many hundreds of wars, and it likely will continue to do so, but it also effects those of us who hate religion, and how religious people get 'perks' for belonging to elite 'sects' of society.
Don't call me a racist. Don't call me an Atheist. I'm simply an Equalist - That is, someone who believes that EVERYONE should be governed by the same rules and regulations, regardless of who they are, or what they believe in. The term "Human Being" applies to more than just those of the same religion as you. Learn to live with it.
