NBA 2007-2008 season: Spotlight on the NBA's top scorers

Mamba. The 2nd Coming of "Michael Jordan" which guy is number three?

Well, he is the greatest basketball player in the NBA, #24.

3.Kobe Bryant: Kobe Bryant, without question, is the greatest scorer of my generation. Not because of the 81 point game (though that was nice). Not because of the 62 pts he scored through 3 quarters against a loaded Dallas Mavericks. And, not because I just think he's a swell guy. I know many might feel my sweet tooth for Bryant about as appealing as a lobotomy, but the man has more scoring options than anyone I have seen, including his Airness.

Why? He has the killer instinct. As his three NBA rings can attest. He is quick, agile, athletic and is a great one-on-one defender (9 time NBA-All Defensive Team), which leads to fast-break points for himself or his teammates. Also, Bryant put in the necessary time in the gym to perfect his mid-range and long-range jump-shot. Reportedly after he won his 3rd NBA title, 10 days later Bryant was seen in the gym (when he should have been relaxing at home with his championship and family) shooting 500 jump-shots from all positions on the floor.

Furthermore, there is perhaps no player in the game that can take over a 4th quarter quite like Kobe Bryant. His ball-handling skills are exceptional, so it is hard to strip him of the "rock." While he does not have the bulk of LeBron James, he eludes defenders with fade-a-ways, whirl-wind cross-overs, and just an array of moves. He can dunk. He can shoot the ball from 10 ft to 35 feet. He can post-up. He can defend.

What can you possibly want more from a player?

I rest my case.
