The NBA is full of extremely talented individuals that have the ability to both wow and woo the crowd with their athletic ability. And, with that being so, professional basketball is not without its legions of admirers. After all, the fan from the die-hard to the casual, both in essence, loves a player that can put points on the board. Throughout the annals of NBA history, there have been players that have amazed the crowd. From Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Big "O", Oscar Robertson, Dominique Wilkins and others.
However, as great as those players were in their primes, what matters, however is why are the 2007-2008 top scorers in the league so successful. And, there are many reasons for that. I won't go through every single one, but I will list the pertinent reasons on why these three NBA scorers are head and shoulders above the pack. Not because they're more special than the other scorers, but because these three men are considered the three best players in the NBA, for the last few years.
1. LeBron James: He is 6'9 and weighs 260lbs. He is built like a linebacker and probably would have had a great career on the grid-iron, but he chose the hardwood of the NBA floor instead. James in his 5th season in the NBA, averaged an excellent 30 ppg. While it is true that other players in the past have averaged that and more in an entire season, what is different, however, is the fact that LeBron James is technically the true PG for his team (meaning he gets other teammates chances to score a lot). See, when he entered the NBA the comparisons between he and Magic Johnson abounded. They were both the same size and played the same position. Both excelled in the open-court.
James' most significant portion of his game was his knack for involving his teammates within his style of play. His flair for the dynamite instantly had the NBA crowd on its feet. Encore! Encore! Encore! That was the mantra that was shouted, so long as James put on one great performance after another. In one season (2006-2007), he averaged 8 assists and 8 rebounds. Certainly, Earvin Johnson-esque numbers, huh? Or for those whom can remember, Oscar Robertson.
Noted for his ability to post-up defenders and blitz them with an array of moves, he is almost impossible to guard in the post. Because he is usually guarded by men smaller, James uses his bulk and mass to abuse his defenders, by backing them down in the paint or taking it to the hole and getting fouled on his way up. Surprisingly quick and agile
