my household is puppet making. My daughter's particular favorite is glove puppets. I know every household has at least one glove that has lost its mate. In order to make a puppet out of it you place the glove palm up or palm down and just let your imagination run wild. You can make each individual finger a separate person or make the whole glove one puppet. You can use characters form your current favorite picture book or you can even make people in your family. You can get real creative if you have sewing skills and make interchangeable clothes for your puppet! You do not have to do this though. I think the puppet looks just as nice drawn on with fabric or permanent markers. My personal favorite is the one that my daughter just scribbled all over and I added googlie eyes from the arts and crafts store.
A really quick puppet idea is pop sickle stick puppets. You take one pop sickle stick and about a one inch circle of construction paper. You draw a face and add yarn hair if you want and than glue the back of the face onto the stick. You know have a pop sickle stick puppet. For some odd reason my daughter likes to rip the face off the stick within the first day but it's her puppet if she wants to deface it than I say go right ahead.
I hope these few craft ideas will keep you busy. I know it has kept my daughter and entertained for quite some time. Enjoy.
