Cruise ships: activities for seniors! Better believe it, these are action oriented places. The wife and I tend to go in late spring and late fall. No good reason for the timing other than birthdays, other occasions and waiting on our still employed friends.
Several aspects to cruising that I like to talk about! First of all, I know a lot of people who won't go on one of the boats because they might get seasick. You have a lot less motion to deal with on one of these monster cruisers than an old Greyhound bus making its way through a mountain pass. They have excellent medical facilities on the boat and good people to man the clinics. If you get too ill for shipboard treatment, they fly you out on a helicopter to the nearest port.
We have made many trips to Alaska. I once worked there and wife has lots of experience in the tourist areas of southeast Alaska. Each time we go, we find a new thing we haven't seen before, or some wildlife not previously seen. This is the late fall trip I mentioned earlier.
We found the Panama Canal trip to be the most interesting because we got to see the workings of one of the 7 wonders of the world. We hit a storm and got to see lightning and hear thunder for a day and a night - Spectacular!
The Mexican Riviera is all that you hear about in the advertisements - warm, friendly, lots of things to do. Tour buses are the best way to get around and see everything.
For the future we plan on spending some spring times in the Mediterranean areas. Along with this we would like to see the countries in Scandanavia and popular sites in Europe.
We are not rich, we have to watch our pennies just like most folks. We do work the system as much as we can to get the discounted tickets waiting to be had. Get on-line and look for them - I'm not going to give them away!
If you are a talented writer and had a digital camera, you can write about your experience and attach some photo's for commercial papers. The folks who buy the trip information have been there and done that, so don't try to fudge on them. Present an honest story of your experience, tuck the money away and take another trip!
