What surprises people most about having children?

There are many surprising things about having children. I am learning more and more every day things that absolutely surprise me. When I found out I was pregnant I would have to say that was the biggest surprising factor of them all! Just kidding. The amount of pain a woman can withstand during childbirth is extremely surprising. I don't know how we do it.

The absolute love and devotion that comes with becoming a mother is a wonderful surprise. I never knew I could be so mad at an individual and love them more than anything in the world at the same time. When people say the terrible two's, they mean it. Surprisingly enough they start at about 1 year old, at least my son did! He is into everything. That is one thing no one ever informed me about. What a child can get into would amaze anyone.

The lack of sleep one can live with is a total shocker. When someone tells you to rest up before the baby is born, listen up and take their advice because they are not joking! My son slept for only about two hours a night for the first year of his life. I thought I was going to absolutely die. Perseverance and determination definitely kick in.

Another shocker would have to be the amount that a kid can throw up when very little goes in, and for how long this can keep going. If your child has reflux, watch out parents to be. More outfits than you could believe will have to be thrown away, or get a good dry cleaner.

Everything that comes out of my son's mouth now is a surprise. It is a very entertaining time to listen to them learning to talk. He picks up on everything. Even things that have accidentally come out of my mouth at times, let's face it we have all done it! It always seems to happen when I least expect it, and in front of strangers! The most surprising time was at church when he acted up, and I was trying to remove him from the service. He started screaming, no mommy, no mommy! Please don't hit me mommy. I have never been more embarrassed. He somehow picked up this line from somewhere. Now everyone in the church probably thinks I beat my child! I don't by the way, even when I feel like it!

Life's little mysteries keep me on my toes! I enjoy watching my son learn and grow, and keep teaching me things I never knew! When more surprises happen I will have to let you know!
