MANSION OF THE MIND

Imagine your mind is like a mansion, and psychologically partitioned with many rooms for positive living and even more rooms for negative living. There would be a Basement or Cellar, a Ground Floor, and higher floors. We have a choice of which Floor and which Room on that Floor we occupy each waking hour. Our state of mind will depend on which Room we choose to dwell in, in the mansion of our mind. Sometimes the choice is not ours as we, on many occasions, find ourselves in a Room not of our choosing, driven there by circumstances beyond our control. We are sometimes led by others to Rooms we should not visit, let alone dwell there for any length of time. However, we always have the choice on how long we remain there. The doors are never locked, but the longer we stay there, the harder it becomes to find a way out.

The Lower Floors: Basement or Cellar and First Floor.

The Basement or Cellar.

There are, unfortunately, many, many Rooms down in the Basement inviting us to spend too much time there. These are Rooms we should not be in, yet we find ourselves visiting them very often. They are dark, and a musky smell of damp earth permeates every Room, but they all have a dangerously, comforting warmth that embraces you. There are Rooms for Hatred, Avarice, Lust, Covetousness, Gluttony, Carnality, Envy, Greed, Malice, Lewdness, Pornography, Revenge, Anger, Aggression, Perversion, Sadism, Voyeurism, Sadomasochism and many other vile Rooms; they reek of evil, but offer great temptation. We are in great danger when we dwell for any length of time in any of these Rooms. They encourage a debilitating mental condition, from the low of depression to the false high of Anger. When you add rationalizing to explain your actions, even for a fleeting visit, you are courting disaster. There is nothing positive in these horrible places, but what they offer can be so tempting.

The First Floor.

Again, there is a choice of many Rooms here on the First Floor of the Mansion. They are named for a state of mind that attempts to influence our actions to our detriment. They are Ambition, Arrogance, Egotism, Deviousness, Provocation, Infidelity, Jealousy, Antagonism, Bigotry, Aggression, Hatred and many others. You would dwell in these Rooms to hone your skills if you are an Irascible, Vengeful and Argumentative personality. They create a love for always being Right'.
The Rooms on the First Floor are larger than the Rooms in the Basement, because you dwell longer in them. They
