Poetry: The cycle of life

She gave birth Sunday
The babe died Monday
She remembers the agony

A smile on her face
The babe knows freedom
Its body tossed into a pit

An imitation of joy
A mockery of the patriarchal family
Property sold
The master makes
Seven hundred dollars
She is raped

Pregnant once more
She uses a hangar
Blood covers
The tattered blanket
that makes her bed

and her eyes close
for the final time
a smile on her face
the word "God" on her lips

her body is tossed into a pit
another is purchased
and the cycle continues.
