How to increase sales with networking

Business cards open doors and build business.

Believe it or not, business cards speak volumes about a business or an organization. They are the ultimate first impression. Think of it this way if networking is the ticket to new business, your business card is your passport. We live in a visual society where people make judgments based on physical cues and attributes and business cards are no exception.

Design: Your card is a direct reflection of your brand. Therefore, it needs to communicate your corporate identity and personality in the best light possible. Does it properly feature your logo mark? Does it incorporate your colors and font? Is it clean and easy to read? Does it list your website and properly highlight your phone number and e-mail address?

Printing: Card stock is more important than you may think. A business card printed on thin, paper stock sends a message that your company may be unstable, new or a flash in the pan.' While this may be far from the truth, it's all about perception. A card printed on heavy stock indicates solidity, dependability and commitment.

Shape and Size: Think about it99% of business cards are the exact same size. Why not stand out from the crowd with a unique shape and size that still fits into a pocket or wallet? The possibilities are endless- circular, triangles, perfect squares, theater ticket replicas, and oval shapes are sure to get you noticed. Furthermore, recipients are more likely to hold on to unique cards for the long term. They'll feel guilty tossing them out.

That being said, the purpose of your card is to pass it out liberally. There is no need to be stingy. Carry them everywhere you go and make it a habit to hand them to everyone you meet. It will help people remember your name. Don't be afraid to ask for one in return. Most people will feel flattered. Include them with every correspondence, letter, invoice, brochure, and invitation. Keep a stack in your car, at home, in your purse, gym bag or wallet.

Good connections are abundant, but not always so obvious. So, get your card circulating with everyone you meet! Good luck.
