Reflections: The passing of time

Hands up anyone who has ever seen Groundhog Day? Bill Murray wakes up in the same town, on the same day, every day until Andie MacDowell falls in love with him and the cycle is broken. So a classic happy ending for that story then. But what about real life, when the end is not controlled by a script writer? Instead the ending is open to change, with nobody knowing what the eventual outcome will be. When you are faced with a decision that could go one of two ways, with no way of knowing what will happen, what do you do? Should you quit your nice safe and boring job for the unknown, or stick it out for the security it provides? If life were a script then you would know which was the right decision, but unfortunately none of us knows what is going to happen next.

Sometimes I think that if my life was a product bought from a shop, I would be in the customer service queue demanding a full refund. What happened to the great career, loving boyfriend and a house/car of my own? Instead somehow I was limbered with a dead end career (and not even the money to compensate!) along with the box room in my parents' house and permanent bus pass. And as for the long term, successful relationship? Err, when it gets to the point you need a book entitled "Relationships for Dummies (And how to find one)" I think that's probably not a very positive sign. So the resolutions for this year involve sorting out these things, although maybe not all at once. I tried that once before, and ended up completely exhausted. Getting a car is nearly organised and having sent off numerous job applications, hopefully one of those will be in the affirmative soon. There's not really much that can be done to make things happen, except those where the only obstacle is a lack of money. In these cases its just a question of saving wherever possible, taking on other work if it comes up. When the solution relies on another person, its really just a case of learning from rejections and turning each into a positive outcome. Stop complaining and start doing, and maybe this can help. If you feel more positive, this can only be a good thing. Not in an annoying "happy clappy" type of manner, but if you feel negative than it can easily drag your mood down and make you less willing to work towards your goals
