Looking into the present situation where many rivers have already dried up and are now dead forever, I would say that great rivers have the possibility to die too. Three fourths of the earth is water, and only one fourth is land but with the changing conditions of the earth everyday, time would come when the reverse might happen. Water today is becoming scarce due to global warming and other human activities that contribute to the scarcity of water. What more in the coming centuries to come?

When I was a little child, I often gazed up to the beautiful waterfalls a few miles from home. I could view the falls from our window and see how it seems to change in shape and movement. I didn't expect then that the waterfalls would soon dry up. Many waterfalls in my hometown have already died a natural death. Old people say that when they were young, every corner has a stream where they stop and drink. The streams and springs were very abundant and once all safe for drinking. Today, most of the streams and rivers had all dried up and only a few streams could be seen in forests and fields.

According to my grandfather when he was still alive, water was never a problem. A few steps could lead you to a stream or river where you could take a bath or fetch drinking water. After a few years, some of the streams and rivers had dried up. And as years go by, more and more rivers are drying up. They only get alive when rainy season comes, but otherwise, water doesn't flow in many rivers.

My fear is that even great rivers would soon die if man will not find ways to sustain them. The problem in this world of ours is the greed that is consuming almost everyone. They want power and money and they don't care about nature. Most of our rain forests are being adulterated and destroyed because trees are cut off to make beautiful furnitures and houses. These are the main source of water and if man will not stop the destruction of these forests, time would come when water could not be found anywhere, and where would we be without water?

Maybe these great rivers are seen as too great to die but some great rivers have already dried up. I believe that it would take years before these great rivers would die but still time would come when they too will die a natural death and that is because people are not aware of the possibilities.
