Every afternoon my granddaughters come in from school and plop down to watch Miley Cyrus' make believe life as Hannah Montana. You know, the series that portrays a sweet, innocent, young girl who is a Star Performer/singer and hides her really identity from school mates and fans so as not to be looked at differently than the other girls .
Well now, Miley has gone and done the unthinkable, inexcusable, NO-NO for a young girl her age. She has been photographed in some very un-innocent poses for Vanity Fair Magazine. Why on earth would a young girl who has so much going for her put herself in such a position? Did she do the photo shoot for MONEY? For more recognition? To be discussed on television talk shows? To ruin her reputation of being an average, Innocent young lady?
What ever her reasons for the photo shoot, the back-draft of the firey photos will be the talk of the town (all towns) for sometime. Many questions will be raised by parents who see the layout. They will wonder if they shouldn't pull the plug on Hannah Montana for their daughters' own good. What if the show begins to follow in the path of the actress? Will mothers still allow their daughters to watch and imitate this young girl?
I am not a proponent of nudity, semi-nudity, or semi-semi-nudity. I don't believe that our daughters (and sons for that matter) should be living in a society that promotes this type of indecent behavior. In our world today, there is so much that we have to explain to our children. We have "Stars" making the news with their drug abuse, child abuse, alcohol abuse, DUI, etc. Are there no upstanding young actors/actresses, singers, etc. that are on the straight and narrow any more. Is there anyone left who is pure, drug free, alcohol free, not an unwed parent, that our children can relate to?
I ask all young people to please Stand Up for morality, purity, innocence, and justice. You do not have to have an addiction, be sexually active, immoral, etc. to "BE SOMEBODY" or to be a "STAR". Believe me, you will be much better thought of if you keep your innocence and grow up to be a "self respected" adult. When you want to "make it" big, remember to keep your life simple and straight. Follow the good role models in your life and you will go much farther than you will by imitating those who are too "into their self" to "make it" and make it last.
Even though Miley has apologized for the Vanity Fair photos, she has cheapened herself. Miley, you surely didn't have to follow in the footsteps of the other young teenage Stars and ruin your reputation. An apology is an admission of wrong doing. If Miley thought she had done the wrong thing, why didn't she refuse the deal with Vanity Fair, instead of apologizing for it: after the fact? Someone in Miley's position is very influential to her peers and as such carries the weight of setting good examples for her friends and fans.
Money gained in this way is not well earned. The attention received from this type of action is not good attention. The word of mouth references and opinions gained by this conduct is never wholesome and appealing.
Come on Miley; get with it. Don't just apologize and state that you didn't think what you did was wrong...... make it up to your fans by promoting INNOCENCE, PURITY, MORALITY, and GOOD JUDGMENT in the future. Start now, today, and lead the way for young girls into their young womanhood by setting the right examples for life.
