For the young person with a heart that wants to change the world, Christian Mission trips are a means to get involved in doing just that. A mission trip does not have to be one that takes you across the globe. In fact, it may be a trip across your community or state. There are people in our every day lives that are in need of some one to bring them a message of hope and to extend to them some Christian love.
Youth missions may involve an entire Church youth group. Maybe, as a youth, you feel this is a calling for you to fulfill. Missions have many benefits for both a teen's spiritual life and personal life. To become a part of something greater will ultimately benefit your life for the years to come. There are so many different types of missions that a teen can become involved in.
Spiritually speaking, one benefit is that you will find your spiritual life and relationship with God begin to grow stronger. It is the most humbling experience to find yourself in places and towns you never dreamed possible as you follow your heart in reaching out to your world. By growing stronger spiritually, you are able to take on the obstacles that try to deter you.
Teens who plan for missions also develop on a personal level too. Things like budgeting, fund-raising and planning all help develop skills of managing the details involved. Missions help teach responsibility to teens. They also develop in teens the ability to have a larger view of the world outside of the one that they now know.
It is important to do plenty of research with your parents and even your church pastor or youth counselor. Look into the different Christian organizations that promote positive spiritual growth and opportunities to become involved. Do your homework involving safety practices, total costs, type of trips offered and even possibilities of getting involved in other ways. There are many ideas out there for teens who want to become involved in missions. From performing arts and drama, humanitarian building projects, overseas teaching and emergency relief projects are ways that teens can get involved in the ministry of missions.
Missions is a great way for youth to stand out from the crowd and make a difference in this world, even if that difference is only in the life of one. To give of yourself is the greatest gift that one can give. In fact, Christ Himself did just that. He came here to this world to seek and to save those who were lost. By being a missionary, you are in fact being Christ-like.
