Poetry: The Spirit

by Connie Mcentee

Created on: May 02, 2008

On a dark windy night it whispers your name
haunted voices say you're to blame
atone, lest you fall into the eternal flame
self conceited is what you became.

Go ahead and shave your head
pretend to hide from pain you've spread
loneliness laughs at the tears you shed
a payment is due for the heart you've shred

Build your body til it is strong
never will you hide the wrong
death's angels will forever sing your song
in the darkness where you belong

Try to be something you're not
but alone, you hear the voices plot
escape from them can not be bought
your tormented soul begins to rot.

To be unloved is your curse
forever running from the voices verse
reminding you how you destroyed the nurse
until the day, you're laid in the hearse.
