Compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, resourceful, and organization are five traits that help make an effective teacher. Being a teacher in the year 2008 is a very daunting task. There are many added pressures put on teachers to "make" all students perform at the "A" level. The adults that have committed to educating our students in the classroom need to have a passion for learning themselves. By having this passion for themselves, they are able to pass it on to their students.

All students learn differently. Some are visual learners, while some students are auditory learners. An effective teacher will present materials in a visual way for the visual learners. There should be many bright, vibrant colors distributed within the materials. For the students that are auditory learners, a portable microphone should be used by the teacher when available.A teacher that is effective will recognize when these types of learners are in their classroom.

An effective teacher will also listen when students are addressing concerns in the classroom. By showing their students that they are human beings and do care about them as people, they will be respected as a person and an educator. Some of the most effective teachers that I have encountered in my lifetime were interested in my family and I. They also expressed interest in my hobbies. These effective teachers would encourage me to write about my specific hobbies that they knew that interested me. By showing an interest in my life and my interests, I looked up to them with respect.

Organization is another key element in the classroom of an effective teacher. When a teacher has prepared a lesson plan, students take notice. By planning and organizing each day the teacher can adequately present the lesson in an effective manner. A teacher shows a lot more confidence when they understand what they are presenting to the class. If the teacher is organized, there is a good chance that the students in the classroom will follow suit in the organization department. Students do observe and do shadow the adults in their lives.

Teachers are a very important aspect of our education system in the United States. By being role models for our students, they can be effective in their classrooms all over our country. Students today are looking for adults that will respect them and show them how to be a productive citizen in our society. I can't think of a better way for a student to learn respect, but from their effective teacher in their classroom.
