Poetry: A day in my life

by Ariel Eton

Created on: May 01, 2008

Here inside this body
Lives a ME that no one knows
A ME that's hard to understand
A ME I haven't chose

To be bitter and misgiving
Is really not my style
But when I least expect it
It's glowing instead of a smile.

How it all began
I cannot recollect
But this ME helps me to remember
Things I want to forget.

How miserable I am
In this body I do not know
Instead of this ME going away
This ME continues to grow.

I say things that have no meaning
My life is listless and a waste
And what I should have knowledge of
I have very little taste.

There are no plans for the future
Or the present, as in the past
And I live from day to day
As sands run through the hourglass.

Time does not wait for ME
To find out whom I am
So tomorrow will be another day
Of ME living as a sham

So if I seem to be in another world
And I do not speak, wave or grin
I'm not trying to avoid you
I'm just fighting the ME that's within!
