Poetry: Don't ask

by Robert Dixon

Created on: May 01, 2008

Harsh Word

What makes a person?
Biology, chemistry,
Psychology, rhythm,
Or style? Perhaps
It's all too simple.
It's the bitter
Little word
That's heard
In the grand
Vocabulary of life
That makes us
Stop short,
Close shop early,
Avoid joy,
Harbor guilt,
And alienate
Those that mean
So much to us.
We build our Life
On insignificant
Words and phrases
And allow
The oppression
To swallow us
Rather than liberate.
