Gone, like sunny days that cannot stay
is the exuberance of youth in me
departed far behind and long ago
youth, escaped, I no longer see
Fleeting, are the memories of past
and half recalled the beauty of all
for not long ago was, but is no more
the yearn, the feeling of youthful call
Surrender not, my aging heart to fall
into what we no longer know
instead retain that which made the fire
that once burned high in my soul
For thoughts of youth, quite revered
should not of want bring to mind
dissonance and fret of aging come
but rather cause the heart to find
what youth remains today
