Poetry: Cheating

by Clide Beasley

Created on: May 01, 2008

I have no claim to the best
Of your life -
Not your time,
Purest love,
Nor
Your most pleasant thoughts.

She unwittingly lends me your body:
I have no options.
I must
Return it exactly
As I found it:
Pampered and unmarked.

I can only claim
Your lust
In darkened rooms;
Sips of black coffee
In distant cafes;
An hour or two
Once or twice a week;
A few sound byte conversations;
And
Ubiquitous
Betrayal.
