Emo is often referred to as the "Emotional Punk Movement," where they support and attempt to live up to non-conformity. However questionable and clich the ideals might be, the emo appearance is very distinct, and comes with its difficulties. Probably one of the most controversial aspects of an emo is the hair.
It is difficult to acquire the correct emo style of hair, and many people have debated upon the methods with which to obtain their original look. For this style, however, it might be simpler than one would at first assume.
One of the obvious needs for this style is the highlights, but that is something we shall get to later. For the time, it must be discussed how one can achieve the smooth, wavy condition of her hair. A strongly recommended shampoo - though other slightly less conventional methods may be needed - is Kerastase. It helps to achieve the strength, cleanliness, and color that you want while not threatening to damage your hair or scalp in any way. This is not only best for the preparation of your hair, but for maintaining it, as well, as it is very suitable for those with dyed hair; which is a must to acquire the emo style.
To finish up the look - and I promised I'd get to this - you need your highlights. They can range in color, but a preferred look is the bleached-blonde color. Apply this in streaks to your scalp, slowly moving the concoction through the areas of hair you wish to apply it to. This will not damage your hair, however, even when using Kerastase, you might still have to re-apply the highlights due to the slow fade over time. Curling irons and other tools can be used to get that waviness or straightness you are looking for - but it's most important to meet your own preferences.
If you do not trust yourself with your own hair, then you might find yourself faced with the task of describing the style you want to a hair stylist at a beauty parlor. Never fret, for it is not that hard to give the stylist the correct information, especially since they probably have had experience in this style before.
If the parlor does not have Kerastase specifically in stock, simply ask them to apply whatever will get close to its efficiency. Once they have cleaned your hair, allow them to apply the highlights the same way you would to yourself, and they can use the curling iron to get your hair however you might want it. A trim can also help to get a unique texture, length, or style in your hair, by applying interesting cuts to get a peculiar - but still very much emo, and therefore cool - design.
This style is best mostly for those who look good with brighter colored hair, and are thin enough so that they don't look like a bloated whale that someone dropped a bright beach blanket on.
