So,you're considering trying to achieve the emo look. This look is fairly flattering, on just about anyone. We know it looks great, on those who are tall, up to 2 meters tall (6.5 feet,) thin, and long legged. You may not have the traditional features, of those who have rocked the emo style, in the past, but don't let that stop you. If you have the attitude, you can still pull it off with flying colors, girl. Only you can decide if the emo is right for you. For those who have decided, to make the bold leap, here's how you do it.
First, you will need to prepare your follicles, for the transformation. Emos tend to have very thick hair, you will want to begin preparing, beforehand, by purchasing a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, if you do not already have them. Wash, condition, and blow dry your hair, daily, for at least several days, preferably at least a week, in advance, to achieve maximum volumization.
Now, you are ready for the haircut portion. You will want to have a friend or hairstylist, cut the top portion of your hair, to about 2 1/2 inches to 3 1/2 inches in length. Next you will need to use the clippers. I recommend using the 2 to 3 size guard, to shave the sides of your head. It is best to create a gradual blend or fade, to create a smooth transition, between the longer top length and the shorter side length. On the side areas, you may also want to leave a few patches of longer hair, spread out sporadically, about 7 to 10 inches in length. I will explain why, later.
As most emos have very dark brown to black hair, you will need to complete a dye job, if you have light hair or have previously dyed your dark hair, a lighter color. There are many wonderful dark hair colors, on the market, for you to choose from. This will allow you to achieve that authentic emo look. Be sure to read the instructions and follow them carefully, for safety reasons, and best results, if doing the dye job yourself. A professional can be an excellent idea, in many cases. An emo haircut is very easy to style. No gel or hairspray is necessary. Just take your hand and thoroughly ruffle your hair.
Being a new, hip, on the edge look, your hairstylist may or may not, exactly know what the emo look is. If you've ever gone on vacation to Australia, check through the photos you took, and see if you captured any images of unique emos. You can even go to the zoo, to snap a few pictures on your phone or digital camera, as most zoo's have wonderful emo exhibits. Even a picture from a magazine, such as, "National Geographic," will do, although you and another girl may embarrassingly end up being modeled after the same emo. So try to be creative, on where you find your example, it's worth the extra effort, to get a one of a kind look.
You or your hairstylist could weave some brown, white, or gray, feathers, into the longer side patches of hair, I suggested, you may want to leave on the sides, earlier. This will provide, almost endless possibilities, that you can easily change up, any time. You can rock this hairstyle, with a feather shirt or jacket, to keep it extremely fierce.
