If asked, every scrapbooker would have their own list of the benefits of scrapbooking. It is a unique hobby that has been around for several years, but only recently has become extremely popular.
A great benefit of this hobby is to save your priceless photographs before they become damaged. Many people have photographs in the old magnetic style albums and they are not only being robbed of their color over time, but may also now be very difficult to remove from the albums. It is extremely important to save your photographs and preserve them properly, so future generations can see them and be interested in them, rather than just seeing your photos as boxful of pictures of people they don't know.
Scrapbooking holds the obvious benefit of preserving memories, stories, and day-to-day living for future generations to enjoy. Imagine knowing about your Great-Grandparent's adventures, through a scrapbook prepared by your Great-Grandmother with her precious "voice" coming to you from its' pages?
One can also prepare cherished family heirlooms to pass down to your children. All children, and especially younger children, love looking at photographs of themselves as small babies and by providing such an outlet, you can foster a special relationship with your children, as you look at your carefully handcrafted books together.
A further benefit to this rapidly growing hobby is the ability to connect with other people. For example, what better way to nourish family relationships that to spend time with a grandmother, mother, father, aunt or daughter, compiling family history in a scrapbook to be enjoyed for generations to come. One can also connect with other people and meet many new friends, thanks to this wonderful craft, by attending crops at local scrapbook stores or participating and joining in websites online that cater to this specialty craft.
In addition, scrapbooking can bring joy to people. It is a creative process and it can be very fulfilling to "play" with paper, color, and shapes (not to mention the numerous scrapbooking embellishments, tools and other product created to enhance these memory preservation books). Experience is not required, just your imagination, along with a pair of scissors, some adhesive, paper, photographs, and of course, the album to assemble it all in.
The mental health benefits attributed to this avocation are amazing. It is only understandable why many nursing home facilities are utilizing this craft to provide an environment where their residents can not only socialize, but to reminisce and share memories among them. Who doesn't, after all, have a "stash" of photographs just waiting to be preserved along with written memories of the events they portray?
In short, the benefits of scrapbooking are many, but different to each. It provides a wonderful outlet for your creativity and a chance to explore new and innovative ways to enrich your own life as well as the lives of others, by recording life events and anecdotes for future generations to enjoy for years to come.
