Great ideas for weekend vacations

Weekend vacations are becoming increasingly popular and, with the cheapness of travel, far away places are getting closer. To me the following are my ten ideas for a great weekend.

1) London London's weekend nightlife has to be experienced to be believed. After a visit to the Westend theatre, there are dozens of clubs to visit, where you might bump into the odd celebrity or two. During the day you can relax in Regents Park, take a trip along the River Thames, or visit one of the thousands of museums. There is something for every one.

2) Scotland If the rugged life is for you, there is nowhere better to experience this than in the Scottish highlands. After a sturdy walk through the mountains, you will be able to relax beside one of the lakes and breathe in the fresh air. You may even have the opportunity of witnessing seals playing in the water. Then it is off to the hotel for a hot meal and broth and an evening of Scottish hospitality. Fierce looking but friendly people await you.

3) Bruges Take a step back in time as you step into Belgium's most beautiful city. Whether you wish is to be transported via canal boat ride, or in a horse draw carriage, Bruges will provide it for you. In the winter, welcoming open fires greet you in the restaurants and the clothing shops will be a certain attraction for the ladies.

4) New York One cannot possibly leave New York out of a weekend break. Here you will find America at its most lavish, extravagant and friendliest. Whilst there are some poorer areas, New York, with Broadway, Times Square and Central Park has a lot to offer. You will be amazed at the size, of the buildings, of the parks, and yes of the cars. Follow the yellow cab trail through the city that never sleeps and offers a variety of cultures and lifestyles not repeated anywhere else in the world.

5) Kenya Listen to the nighttime sound of the world's wild animals in their own environment. Take a daytime safari across the welds of Africa and wonder at the graceful Giraffe, the cumbersome yet gentle Elephant and the power of the big cats. Here the tribal music handed down for generations. Kenya, the land that commercialisation left alone.

6) Jersey Jersey is a tiny but beautiful island, home of offshore banks and rich natives. Marvel at the beauty and peace of the landscape and at the palatial houses of the rich and famous. Take a bicycle ride an island that can be travelled in less than a day and experience the special cuisine. Jersey see how the other half live.
