The age of the computer. What age is that exactly? My kids are in their 20s and 30s now. They all feel that Mom and Dad know nothing. Little do they know, we did teach them everything they know (at least to a certain age). After that, they all felt they were "born" knowing everything!
I have been in the computer field since the IBM Personal Computer consisted of a two drive system, one disk went into one slot for the program to boot up. The second disk went into the slot so you could save the data. Wow, was that a while back!
I'm really not older than dirt. I'm only 48 years old. The other day I had a problem with my wireless Internet and called my 23 year old son, who asked me to put Dad on the phone...I proceeded to tell him that I could listen and type just as well as his father. Not to mention, I am the one who has worked with computers for the past 24 years. I have taught computer software classes to individuals and to small training classes.
I just wonder how our kids will see us when we really do get old. I am still in good health. I have changed some of my bad habits, but I still keep my mind open and aware of the changes around me in the technology field.
Technology is an interesting field. There is so much out there, where do we begin...and end? We have big screen television. There are so many game systems out there, I can't keep track of them all! My kids have about every system available on the market. I don't know how they all have time to play these games. The games I've tried to watch them play are all about the same. They all search for something and shoot it up! I'm not into reading screens and finding the magic coins, in order to pass through the hidden wall that takes them into the next realm! UGH! I have enough trouble keeping up with my favorite TV shows let alone concentrate on all of those caverns and tunnels!
I love technology and will continue to learn on a daily basis, but there is only so much I can absorb at any given time. Things I really like, I go out and buy. Things I don't understand, I leave to my children and grandchildren to explain to me. I know my grandparents wouldn't believe all of the new technology we have, I mean, having a house talk to you and tell you when there is an intruder, using your fingerprint to get you into your door without a key, an electric car looking thing running around in your yard, mowing your lawn, without a human pushing it? What has happened to our world?
It's really hard to keep up...so I don't even try...I just enjoy all of the surprises I see and enjoy!
