My Relationship with you, God

I thank you God that my relationship with you
Is not based upon material possession
Because my poverty would tell me
Not to praise you at all.
Instead my relationship with you
Has shown me that because I possess a love for the Creator
I have inherited all that the earth can not buy

I thank you God that my relationship with you
Isn't based on popularity

Because my lack of friends would tell me
To forget you existed
Instead my relationship with you tells me
That as long as you know me I may say "Lord, Lord"
And enter into your Divine glory

I thank you God that my relationship with you
Is not based on the size of my family
Because my lack of kin would tell me
That you aren't my father.
Instead my relationship with you has shown me
That because I put my trust in you
You have adopted me as your very own
You are now my Father, The Creator

I thank you God that my relationship with you
Isn't based on a wardrobe
Because this one outfit would tell me
That the grass is more precious than I
Instead my relationship has shown me
That because you're my Father
I am clothed in righteousness through your redemptive blood

I thank you God for my relationship with you.

So many times I have questioned my relationship with God based on these things and when I saw that I lacked, a drift had been created in my trust and communications with God. I have been taught that these are elements for which you should base God's love on by being reminded of Adam. When he fell from grace his curse was to be cast from the richness that God created for him in the Garden. However when I look at many other followers in the Bible, I am reminded that to serve God requires that we do not put material possession [or anything] so high on a pedestal that we would choose it over what is most important - relationship with God. Everyday I am working toward a goal that I believe is God given me that requires me to have the things that would help me to help others. I constantly have to remind myself, it's not about being rich but about fulfilling my life's purpose and that's to serve others in the capacity that he has created me to serve.
