Poetry: The Spirit

by Alan Knox

Apart

Lying on the floor I close my eyes
I can't stop myself - I think of You
You brush away my compromise
Demanding everything - an absolute
And in this destruction I find a new start

Can this broken body live again
I'm torn apart and abused
I wrap myself in sin
And throw away Your words - I am confused
As I die I see You've given me a new heart

Lying on the floor I strain to hear
Just one whispered word above the din
But can I listen through the fear
Or do I fool myself with my thoughts again
And in this raging silence You've taken me apart
