Installing Windows Vista can be a nightmare for just about anyone these days, some computers come with them and some don't. Fact is some people don't even want Windows Vista, however if you do, you may want some tips on installing it before you do so.
Before coming to a conclusion, look up as many things about Windows Vista as you can. Find out if it's really the right operating system for you, but I guess you can always switch back if you don't like it.
Lets get started on some much needed tips that will help you on the road to Windows Vista glory.
Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor
First of all, I figured this was the best place to start. Before you even consider installing Vista you need to go to Microsoft's website and find Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor or copy and paste the link I will place at the end of this article.
The program will guide you through the steps, and in the end it will tell you if you computer can run Vista properly or not. Your going to want at least 1GigaByte of RAM for your computer, and some decent CPU speed.
Not to mention your going to need a good Hard Drive with enough space to fit Vista and other programs.
Compatibility
You will find that some programs refuse to run on Windows Vista. You will need to update drivers and patch programs to be able to run some applications, or just go out and buy a new version of that software from a retail store.
Another way to deal with this is to try out the Run As Administrator function, however you do not want to leave it running like that, because it's a very high security risk.
Part of Vista's security is blocking user accounts, there for if you log on your administrator account and stay there, theres no use of having Vista.
After Installing
Once Windows Vista is installed, you may want to check up on your device options such as the Keyboards and Mouse. Make sure all the settings for those are perfect and in order, and be sure to download any other security software you may need, like Anti-Virus programs.
After all that, your pretty much clear to go. I would recommend switching all of your files from your old computer to the new one if thats the situation, but if the computers new there isn't anything to worry about obviously.
Websites like howtogeek.com cover in depth tips and tweaks to improve your Vista experience, so I recommend checking them out. Some of those tips can save hours of your time if you know what your doing.
