Recently, Toronto has been promoting itself as the arts and culture capital of Canada. Toronto is a very colorful and exciting city with a lot of territory to cover. And, with the warm weather upon us, it's time to get outside and start exploring. There's lots to see and do.
* Queens Park.
Queens Park is the legislative home of Toronto's provincial government. Free tours of the building are given throughout the year, Monday through Friday between 10:00 am. and 4:00 pm.
* The Distillery District.
This is the most happening place in the city. One of the best features of the district is it's a pedestrian only village. You can find everything here: restaurants, art galleries, retail shops, theaters, and cafes.
George Brown College offers courses here in theater arts. If you love dancing, private and group classes are offered at the high-tech dance studio. An impressive artists studio has attracted people interested in pursuing artistic endeavors like painting, textiles, sculpture, ceramics, and photography.
* The Opera House.
Toronto's new Opera House is a concert venue located just on the outskirts of downtown. Don't be fooled by the name Opera House, it isn't just for symphony orchestras. Many top performers from the world of rock, rap, and jazz have held concerts there.
* Take the Ferry to Toronto Island.
The islands are a 12-minute boat ride away from the Toronto harbourfront. Once you get there, you can picnic, lose your way through a dizzying hedge maze, take a swan ride, a bike ride, rollerblade, or just enjoy the gardens. Cars are not allowed.
* Kensington Market.
The market is made up of hundreds of small shops and stalls that sell fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy, and other items. Vendors represent over 30 cultures from around the world - a true representation of this immigrant community. Kensington is one of Toronto's largest multicultural neighborhoods.
* Little Italy.
Little Italy is home to a thriving Italian community. The area is very trendy and an ideal shopper's delight. You can find many high-end stores and boutiques filled with quality goods imported from Italy. Locals love to hang out at Caf Diplomatico for good conversation and a cup of the best coffee in town.
* Little India.
Little India is a lively neighborhood east of the downtown core. If you love Indian food, there's no shortage of restaurants for vegans and non-vegans. Time goes by quickly at the busy Gerrard India Bazaar. Shop here for 100% silk textiles, art, clothes, jewelry, and
