Presidential Elections 2008

Assessing Barack Obama's chances for the 2008 Democratic primaries

When Barack Obama first came into the public arena as a viable democratic presidential hopeful, it seemed as if he would easily defeat Hillary Clinton, and many were wondering why Mrs. Clinton was refusing to except the inevitable. Then, along came the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and it now looks as if this rather outspoken racist will be the end of Barack Obama's quest to be nominated by the democratic party as their presidential candidate.

I don't think anyone could have seen this coming, it's such a bizarre turn of events, and a real travesty for Barack Obama. In hind sight, it's easy to see that what Mr. Obama should have done was to denounce Wright from the beginning of the controversy, and he should have simply said that it appeared to him that his old Reverend had changed the tenor of his sermons. But, alas, it's too late for that now, even though Barack Obama has finally spoken out against him. The writing is on the wall, Hillary Clinton will win the democratic nomination, and maybe it's as it should be, for Reverend Wright is obviously not all there, and Obama must have seen this a long time ago.

It was bad enough having to listen to some of the anti-American comments made by Mrs. Obama, but Barack put a stop to that right away, and the possibility of his wife's comments becoming a major issue were nipped in the bud. Unfortunately for Obama, he waited too long to distance himself from the bigot Wright. Wright's comments and statements are so over the top that only the hard left would be able to justify some of the hate that Wright has been seen spewing on all of the national news programs. But the icing on the cake was his last speech, which probably all of the voting public has seen. Again, he was mocking whites, and all Europeans for that matter, as being "different" than African Americans. His speech was riddled with hateful and bigoted remarks that offended most everyone watching, and when he started his ridiculous singing routines, well, that told me that Wright is just not "right" in the head.

It is a shame, because when I first heard Barack Obama speak, he had me listening, thinking that here was a new young face who might have different ideas to offer the country, someone that might possibly be able to unite the two parties to work for the good of the general population. That's what our elected officials are supposed to do, work for us, not work against each other to bring the country down. Oh well, maybe in four years the Democratic party might find a viable candidate, but until then, it looks as if Hillary Clinton will be their candidate. I think John McCain will be able to beat Hillary, but it will still be an interesting election to watch. It's a long way until November.
