To many of us, scrapbooking brings back memories of taking photographs and other memorabilia and pasting them into generic scrapbooks that had ugly brown pages which did not hold up well over the years. In recent years, however, awesome scrapbook kits have been created with acid free decorative paper and little embellishments allowing the scrapbook enthusiast to create beautiful keepsakes. Digital scrapbooks that incorporate still photos, video, and sound are also popular among those who like to share their memories with others. Before you decide which scrapbooking format you will use, there are some factors you should take into consideration.
Digital scrapbooking offers some real advantages. One of these is the fact that multiple formats can be used. You can incorporate video from your wedding, graduation, or family celebration that can be watched for years to come. Using a variety of formats as opposed to just print material can make your scrapbook more engaging for viewers. And let's face it in future years as relatives begin to pass away, that video of a grandparent expressing their joy and pride at a grandchild's graduation can mean much more than a photograph that you might see in a more traditional scrapbook format.
Another advantage of using digital scrapbooking is the wide variety of backgrounds and transitions that can be used as opposed to the limitations that paper scrapbooks offer. While there are certainly many, many more options available with the great printers and scrapbook kits available to scrapbook enthusiasts today, using software for video editing and presentations can provide a wealth of background options that can be personalized depending on user preferences.
One of the biggest advantages of using digital scrapbooking, however, is the fact that there are so many different ways it can be shared and stored. You can post your digital scrapbook online using one of the many storage and sharing sites such as Photobucket. You can share your scrapbook with the world or use password protection so that only those you choose can view the scrapbook. You can also burn the scrapbook onto a CD or DVD with the ability to make multiple copies to share. Still another option with a digital scrapbook is that of emailing it to others. The digital format makes it possible to ensure that there is always a copy available in the event of a disaster or in case a copy is lost. This is impossible with a traditional scrapbook.
