Thoughts on teachers

I got over the humiliation of being fired, I fully accepted my new freedom for the miracle it is. I now thank God every day that I had the blessing of being fired so I could lead the life I have now.

Because of my struggles with paperwork and organization, I was honestly never cut out to be a teacher. However, I wonder how many talented mathematicians give up teaching purely out of disgust with ungrateful students. I also wonder how many teachers walk away from teaching as soon as they realize that their academic skills can make them plenty of money without the heartache. If students want to keep the teachers who have practical knowledge, they need to make those teachers feel appreciated.

Some instructors don't know how their field of study applies to the "real world". They may eventually learn more about how their knowledge applies in other areas. But if they are not given the respect they deserve for the knowledge they have now, I guarantee that they will walk out the door as soon as they gain practical skills to go along with their academic acumen.

"When am I ever gonna use algebra?" asks the student.

Just for old time's sake, I'll give one more lesson and answer that question.

"When you want to make money."

You may not see the value of everything your instructors have to say. Just remember that having faith in their expertise and assuming that their knowledge is valuable may just be the best investment you ever make.
