How to become a movie extra

Becoming a movie extra is a simple process with incredible benefits. For those who are absolutely new to the film and television industry and live in New York City or Los Angeles or Orange Counties, simply, call Central Casting for appointment times and show up (on time) for their paper processing and $25 photo shoot. Although there are other casting companies, some of which are great, Central Casting is the IBM of extras casting agencies, and all movie directors offer Central Casting the opportunity to fill their quotas.

An on-line agency for everyone is InstantCast.com. Simply create an account for a mere $9.95 per month and follow the simple step by step instructions. If you have a cellular telephone with a camera, you can upload a simple snapshot or video of yourself to submit for the many parts which are available within the metropolitan area(s) of your choice. Instant Cast is great for extras as well as for experienced actors and actresses, providing up to the minute calls for great parts in popular television shows, major movies, et caetera.

Although the Central Casting office may be difficult to find (given that it is under a high bridge behind a train station), once you have found it, it presents little problem. While you are in line, do not be surprised if agents emerge from their offices behind the glass windows and point to certain people who are standing in line, ask them a few questions, and assign them, immediately, to a movie. I was surprised, and impressed, when I first witnessed this short-cut with three young black men, barely out of their teens. There was 'a scene being shot in Africa, were they interested, can they travel, are there any days during which they are unavailable, here, take this slip and hand it to the girl at that window.' Done, that quickly.

Enter polished! Because I knew the heights to which I want my movie career to soar, I was wearing a beautiful double-breasted jacket and straight skirt, expecting a casting "interview" which never came. While I was standing in line, however, waiting for my photograph to be taken, I was approached, "You would be a great attorney..." Done.

The photo shoot is identical to a simple DMV-type photo session, except that you pose. You will not be invited to view the shot, there are hundreds of people being processed daily, so practice your pose in the mirror at home, prior to arrival, and remember it, or you will be disappointed.

You will, then, be given a set of flyers and instructions. Call Central
