How beliefs can limit who we become

Growing up in a Pentecostal church, I always seemed to struggle with the practicalities of life. When I was in church I could be swayed by the Holy Spirit and go home feeling as though I could do anything I want. That was until I was faced with a challenge. I would struggle and no matter what scriptures I read and the amount of praying I did, I struggled to overcome the challenges.

As I got older I stopped attending church, but never stopped believing in God. When I got outside the four walls of the church my life began to change. I opened myself up to new experiences, read a lot of books, attend yoga, had Reiki, Tai Chi and even saw a psychic. After going through all these experiences without the attachment to my belief system, I began to see life differently. I became aware of my own consciousness. I began to feel the feeling I only felt in church, everyday. I began to understand the scriptures with my heart and not only my mind. The bible says that the truth shall set you free and so when I became aware I became free.

Each and everyones journey is different and yet we are all heading in the same direction. At one point through a belief system that was taught, I was made to believe that good people go to heaven and the bad go to hell. I wasn't able to grasp that concept nor do I believe it. Now I know each persons journey is individual.

Now that I'm free of the belief systems I held, I see life through my own experiences instead of how I was taught to see it. The scriptures make sense and I understand the message Jesus and many other great teachers came to teach us. Each teacher tells us that we are more than just mind and body. We are consciousness, we are connected to a source bigger than us. To Christians this is God. The awareness is the salvation spoke about. That once we were dead but now we are alive through Christ.

The awakening of the spirit happens when you begin to feel the aliveness of everything around you everyday. Your mind lets go of any belief pattern and you make decisions more from a place of awareness and not from what you believe in. You accept life every moment without any preconceived ideas of how it should be. You allow and let go and have a deeper sense of what is going on around you. You stop judging others and turn inward when something bothers you. You make decisions from a position of power rather than from a base of what you believe. By making a decision from only a sense of belief you might find yourself struggle because you don't purely understand why you make the decisions.

My journey in this life, even if it started out as a Christian was all worth it. My spirit is open to whatever the universe presents to me. This is a big step for me and my inner being knows and feels I'm moving in the right direction. When we hold on to certain beliefs they limit our growth. Letting go and going with the flow of life you will find a limitless flow of a new awareness.
