Global warming is rapidly melting sea ice and less arctic ice means less sun reflection, which heats the oceans and creates stronger storms. Therefore, the recent climate changes are indeed related to global warming.
Mark Serreze, a senior science researcher, said that five years ago, they would never have thought it possible for the ice to disappear from the North Pole so soon. There are some who believe the Arctic meltdown is just part of a historic cycle. Mark Serreze says they're wrong.
"It's not cyclical at this point," Serreze said, "I think we understand the physics behind this pretty well. We've known for at least 30 years, from our earliest climate models, that it's the Arctic where we'd see the first signs of global warming. It's a situation where we hate to say we told you so, but we told you so."
If carbon dioxide levels double that of pre-industrial levels, temperatures could rise as high as 5 to 8 degrees by the year 2100. Subsequently, we could see catastrophic events of biblical proportions. Many scientists are saying that if global warming continues at this rate, it could seriously alter the climate.
Global warming is predicted to spur climate migration. People fleeing harsh climates will inundate neighboring regions, possibly spreading disease. One of NASA's top scientists said that global warming has gotten so bad that drastic action is our only hope.
The Myanmar cyclone and the earthquakes in China and Egypt have taken more than 200,000 lives and left thousands more devastated. Mega-storms like Katrina and Ike have ripped across our own country, taking lives and destroying property. All regions have experienced changes in the seasons. It even snowed in Baghdad. Whether our climate changes are associated with global warming or not, the changes are undeniable. Something is happening worldwide.
These horrific events could just as easily happen over here. People may deny that global warming is the cause, but they cannot deny the fact that something is affecting our climate and it seems to be getting worse.
There is a growing concern over the planetary alignment taking place in the universe, which is supposed to be complete by December 21, 2012. Apparently, the planets are lining up with the center of the Milky Way and the sun is approaching maximum.
A number of people believe this alignment may also be affecting our climate because other planets are also experiencing global warming. What's more, it is believed that the closer we get to the year 2012, the more unstable our climate could become.
Global warming denial is understandable as there's ample evidence and facts to support a number of theories. Nevertheless, perhaps it would be wise to consider the possible threats to your area and try to prepare for whatever disaster your area may be prone to.
Preparing for the physical safety of the ones you love is wise, but, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36)
There are a number of Christians who believe we are living in the "beginning of sorrows" that Jesus Christ described to the disciples.
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." (Matt.24)
In Revelation it says that in the last days a single loaf of bread could cost a day's wage. There is war and threat of war in every region in the world. We have witnessed a rapid decline in the economy and oil prices are seriously unstable.
Global warming is heating our oceans and melting our glaciers. Countries around the world are experiencing food and water shortages. Diseases for which there is no cure are coming out of nowhere.
What should we do?
In my humble opinion, I believe there are some things a person simply cannot prepare for. If you research the 2012 theories, don't linger on the rants of the dooms day alarmists. If all of the things happen that they say are going to happen, no one could survive no matter how well they prepare.
Be that as it may, nothing matters more than our soul.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6).
With so many frightening things happening around the world, all of us should be drawing close to God. "... not a hair on your head will perish." (Luke 21:18)
