Scrapbooking is a highly beneficial and creative outlet with no set rules and endless possibilities. It can help you reconnect with yourself and those you love. It is a way to honor your heritage and leave your mark for future generations. Most of all, creating a scrapbook allows you to let your loves ones know just how much they mean to you. Here are my five favorite benefits of scrapbooking:
#1. Scrapbooking helps you to be thankful.
Scrapbooking gives me a greater appreciation for life and allows me to be a more positive person. (If you think about it, it is pretty hard to be negative while looking at the smiling faces of your loves ones). Sharing my albums with others allows me to relive the wonderful moments of my past and to more fully appreciate my present day to day life.
#2. Scrapbooking is a great stress reliever.
The therapeutic nature of scrapbooking enables me to decompress and remember what is important in life. As a mother, I sometimes lose my sense of identity. I suppose it gets misplaced somewhere in between the "I wannas" and the endless list of responsibilities. Scrapbooking has given me a way to break away from everyday struggles and rediscover my values, hopes, and passions.
#3. You can leave a written record for future generations.
I take my jounaling very seriously. My parents are gone and sometimes I wish so badly I could hear stories about what I was like as a child. I wish I could see my mother's handwriting and get a sense of who she was through her writing. Because of this, I write as many stories as I can for my children. I want them to know who I am and what I love. I want them to know what they were like as they grew up. I want them to be grounded in the knowledge that they are valuable human beings who are very, very loved.
#4. You can have meaningful bonding experiences while sharing your scrapbook with those you love.
Sometimes my children crawl onto my lap and we look at the stories and pictures on each page of their scrapbook. They do not seem to mind that most of their early pages are a little plain. (I have progressed since those early days). They giggle and run their hands over the embellishments. They love hearing about how they were born and what they were like as babies. I enjoy reliving all those moments from their baby days as well, because to tell the truth I often forget all the little things they did.
#5. Finally, scrapbooking is just plain fun.
Every page I create has a unique personality that slowly evolves with each color, embellishment, or word that I add to it. Every time I pull out all my papers, ribbons and brads, I feel like a little kid in a candy store. The creative possibilities are endless and I love it!
There are many wonderful benefits to scrapbooking. Whatever your reasons are, just have fun and remember that all your hard work will be treasured for years to come.
