Living in a clean environment in itself is inviting. If you have a family member that does have allergies, hardwood, laminate or ceramic flooring would be the way to go. The allergens will not have the opportunity to attach to fibers, as they would in carpet. It's also important to choose a wood species that will compliment your wood trim. When shopping for a new floor, it's a good idea to take a sample of wood and/or stain trim with you. By letting these items compliment each other the environment will be warm and feel like a home.
When you replace the flooring you have the opportunity to choose the colors and styles that you want to convey through your home. Maybe it's a country, contemporary or Victorian flare that you wish to see each day when you arise. What is important is that you choose a look that is comfortable for you and your family.
If you live in a warm part of the country you may wish to install ceramic tile. There are many warm, natural looking floor tiles available today. In a cooler climate you may wish to install in-floor heating underneath the ceramic tile. Ceramic tile can provide details in design that you cannot find in other flooring products. Maybe a pattern is something you desire. Different colors, sizes and shapes of tile can be set into your floor. The variety of tile is endless. Stone is something that is always guaranteed to present different in texture and presentation.
A lot of people like the feeling of warmth and softness under their feet upon rising out of bed in the morning. If this is your preference, then carpet is for you. Carpet is always a safe and fairly inexpensive purchase that you will get a lot of wear out of. Most carpets today come with manufacturer's warranties that run for 10-15 years. As a general rule of thumb, you will be tired of the carpet before you wear it out.
Updating your flooring can be a fun adventure. If you and your spouse are do it your selfers, you will find a new sense of family togetherness. You will learn new ways to communicate and work well together. New flooring will give your family a new take on your home. You will find the whole family enjoying life on the home front. This may or may not be a good thing for parents of teens, as your home may be the new hangout for them and their friends. Enjoy your new flooring and reflect on the hard work and enjoyment this newness brings to you. Think of the memories that will be made in your new to you home.
