The British have made their report concluding the tragic death of Diana was just a terrible accident. With nearly 85% of Britons polled believing it was a planned murder. I'm not to sure if this report will quell any of this suspicion and speculation. It has been reported that Diana was supposedly pregnant by Dodi Fayed and planning to be married as well according to his father. However this was denied in the report. One must question if the father has other motives as he has been denied British citizenship for nearly 20 years. Other speculation is that Dodi was being watched for ties to terrorists, Bin Laden among them. They have said the Queen would not tolerate a marriage to a Muslim, thus orchestrating the murder. You can't get any higher drama than all this but let's remember our own feelings in this country when we were faced with the mysterious deaths of beloved icons.
Marilyn Monroe created a buzz of conspiracy when she was found dead that lasts until today. Many suggesting a government murder to cover up her affairs with the Kennedy's. So beloved and in our psyche was Marilyn that we could not and still have not come to terms with her death. The Elton John tribute "Candle in the Wind" was paying homage to her legend. It has been remade for Diana as well, forever linking the two. I dare say that what Marilyn was to us, Diana is ten-fold to the English. That's how popular and how huge an icon she was to them. Looking back at our country let's not forget JFK as well. Does anyone really believe the official version of the assassination?
So who's to say what really happened to Diana and why. Perhaps it was really just as the official version said, a tragic accident. Perhaps Marilyn did take an overdose of sleeping pills. And maybe Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone shooter. Does anyone really trust government anymore to be totally truthful? Can we also deny how human emotion and grief will create many scenarios when a beloved icon is killed before their time. I believe that we will be hearing about Diana and the world will be speculating still, long after our deaths and then some. It is just the way of our human condition.
