To rate well, to help a fellow writer step it up just a bit, seems simple right? Well it really is considering the fact that a writer can only grow through learning, through improving right?
The betterment of their own experience as well as offering positive remarks. With the advent of the feedback to writer option while rating, you are able to offer some insight into what could be improved, slight variations in spelling or grammar usage, or simply a modification on the formatting to make it easier to read.
To be constructive, a prerequisite, is to truly look at the document, and note what could be improved, once you have an idea about that, remember the title and if possible the line you saw the error in. In being specific, it makes it easier for the writer to go back and fix the specific line. A worthwhile tool to improve both your own writings and the authors. Beyond that in using that specific tool you offer the readers of the site, a better experience. Remember they are also a big part of, where your article will stand. To also consider the readers, and how they may interpret said article, if a reader enjoys an article he will share. Thereby improving your own rating.
In sharing with the author any corrections you assist in improving quality in the collection of knowledge that is helium. It has long been the one thing lacking in a very successful infrastructure, and now it has been implemented, improving the overall selection, as well as helping each other. For in helping others you help yourself, and a writer is interested in constructive criticism, wouldn't you agree?
In closing it is a great tool, and has been made better by adding functionality. Each person notes different aspects. I know with each article I submit, there are sometimes oversights, or slight improvements that make it a better document, an easier read, that is clear and concise. These slight oversights are often missed by the writer of the article, not making them a bad writer, instead a better student. Do your part, look at the documents that you rate, if you notice something, that could make it better or improve it's presentation don't hesitate to share with the author, we each do our part in improving helium for what it is. Rating is an absolute aspect of heliums mission statement, let us each do our part and improve the ever growing collection of articles on the site.
