Heat of the West
The heat today was the worst this town has seen, It's Spring! And the Temp was over 105 Degrees, that's unbelievable. Working today was just as bad, everything went wrong and it seemed like father wanted to blame everything on the heat. I like heat it makes you feel more like a man, when your outside working hard and sweating, times like this makes you wish you had a pretty lady to come out and bring you lemonade, and when your done working she's got a nice meal all ready for you when your done getting cleaned up, now that's a life right there.
Sitting at the dinner table watchin mama and papa flirt with each other while she finishes with dinner almost makes me sick, but at the same time sends a smile across my face.
"Boy!" papa says "you betta go wash up supper is almost ready"
With that I jump up at the smell of potatoes and corn bread and hurry to the bathroom to "pta" mama says its Pits Tits and Armpits that you best be cleaning.
I come back in to see my other brothers already sitting at the table there twins and there 2. I look at them and stick my tongue out and they laugh.
"Afton" my dad yells "don't pick on your brothers" they laugh again as I sit down and glare at them.
Yeah I love my brothers but It seems like they always get what they want, I kind of liked it better when it was just me for 12 years, but mama has always wanted more kids, she says she didn't want to wait so long to have more but that's just what happened, mama and papa our still young and I'm sure mama wants a girl now that she has 3 boys, one who is a teenager and the others are at there terrible 2's, I always tell the boys to always help mama cuz she does a lot for us. As we sit down for dinner, it doesn't seem the same, something is wrong.
"Mama" I pause as she looks at me
"Yes Afton" she replies while eating her carrots
"Are you ok?" I felt stupid for asking at the dinner table. Papa looked at me then over at mama
"No, I'm just really tired hunny, Thanks for your concern though" she gave a slight smile and continued to eat, the twins started laughing and playing with there food, I looked up at papa, he almost seemed like he was going to scream.
"Boys!" papa said sternly but not mean, they stopped and continued to eat.
We all finished with dinner, little conversations started but nothing like usual; I helped Mama with dishes and Papa was in the living room with the Boys playing some card game.
"Mama" I pause again "thank you" I said while cleaning off a dish
"Thank you for what
