So you want to be a hero? Well, the world defintely needs you now! In fact, I believe the job you're looking for was posted in the Daily News just the other day, Wanted: 21st Century Hero, step up and apply within, ASAP. Applicants need not be greedy, as those working with you and around you will be. Caring about mankind is required. Love of all kinds a must.
No education is needed, only a desire to learn. You must have the strength and endurance to overcome ignorance that has stood in place for hundreds of years. Have the insight and reflection to learn from past mistakes so they are NOT repeated. After all history does not always have to repeat its self. You will be expected to save people and animals so speed of thought and body is essential, inner strength a bonus. Most of us, rather you NOT wear the cape while working. Tights are negotiable.
If still willing to take on the role of hero, please note, you will have your work cut out for you. Mankind has bred a hundred years of war, pollution, a killer flu, germs that won't die until you do, sexually transmitted diseases that kill more than life, genocide, bad leadership, corporate greed, unbelievable gas prices,(OK I threw that one in there) prejudice, Presidencies, kingdoms and cartels. Between you and I, there doesn't seem to be much difference in the last three.
If you're feeling a tad overwhelmed by the qualifications and job details, I don't blame you. The world is a mess. Human suffering is now a daily definite and hope for happy survival only a dream. To be a true hero in today's world, something has to be conquered, not invented. As we have invented and bred plenty of our own troubles. Our next hero must be a conquerer. In the world of today our hero must defeat, not just defend.
Of course if this type of hero is a bit much, start small. There are always organizations and individuals in your own home town who could benefit from help. Maybe someone in your neighborhood or family are in need of a hero. Some elderly tend to be lonely and proud. A combination that only equals sadness. Reach out, not all hero's fly.
Youth sports and activities are always in need of coaches. Kids look up to anyone who is helping them. When you become a child's hero, you are enriching someone's life. That's heroic. Imagine if we all started small? Perhaps, the world would be a better place.
