What wonders lie within the crystal ball. Are you ready for the future of hand-held gaming? The battle front for the next portable console war is rising.
Sony and Nintendo will come out as the big dogs of this fight with a minor division of competitors. Most likely secondary competitors will be cellular, T-mobile and hopefully Verizon. Next Gen' gaming will be about pushing the limits of portable games.
We can only speculate on such rumors like Sony developing a PSP with cellular capabilities, or what the next gameboy will be called. What we can give you is an idea of the unleashed power you'll be getting.
OLED screens or Organic Light Emitting Diodes will be the face that launched a billion portables. This newly discovered technology has a 1, 2 punch with low power consumption and self emits light. No back-light will be needed, giving unprecedented battery life and CPU power capabilities.
What will the next generation of portable gaming cpu's be, multi-core of course. Now that circuits can be created on the 45 nano-meter level you can expect real time HD capabilities. And with the added expectation of wimax nationwide you'll also be getting to compete with gamers 1000's of miles away.
Cartridges and discs may not be the choice of media for the next generation of portable consoles. Running motors can drain batteries fast and building independent circuit boards for a single game is no longer economic. The next big thing should be solid state.
Solid state's recording capacity is vastly exceeding that of any other medium based on price. The most economic idea will be to download games. Pre-paid and monthly/yearly gaming accounts are the new way to game. Paying for download rights per game to flash to your portable gives you more bang for you buck.
Imagine being able to try any game before you buy it. If there is problem with a game you can get it updated. The idea of downloading games probably will come with the next-next generation of handhelds in 5 or 6 years when people and technology are ready.
By then we'll have holographic televisions and unimaginable portable game abilities.
