Tips for bringing your workout on the road

If you're a health conscious individual, and maintain a regular dose of exercise, there's no reason to leave your exercise ambitions at home when you find yourself on the road. Of course, there's no reason to bring your dumbbells and exercise ball with you either. (Although lugging all that extra weight around would be a workout in and of itself)

Staying healthy and fit while traveling doesn't mean you have to rearrange your itinerary to keep up with your routine or completely forfeit exercising all together. Whether you're heading for the shore for a much needed vacation or on a business trip, the following tips will help you maintain your exercise regiment.

The main objective with any exercise program is to increase your heart rate which in turn burns more calories. Bearing that in mind, look for opportunities to increase your heart rate.

Use the Stairs

Take the stairs at the hotel instead of the elevator. For that matter, use the stairs whenever and where ever you find some; the mall, the parking garage, the hotel, the airport or the museum. Using the stairs is an easy and affective way to burn some calories.

Walk

It goes without saying that walking is good for your body. While traveling, be conscious of all the opportunities you have to walk. Park farther away from your intended destination, and walk. Take the long way over or around whenever possible.

Use the Gym

If you're staying at a facility that offers the use of a fitness center to its patrons, take them up on the offer. There are many centers all over the world that do not require a membership in order to use their facilities. Simply walk in, pay a small daily fee and start pumping. Look for these facilities when making your travel plans.

Plan Physical Activities

Hiking, swimming, horseback riding, biking, and rock climbing are all great forms of physical activity. There are many destinations that offer these and other physical type activities. Look for them when making your travel plans.

Hit the dance floor

Dancing is truly a great aerobic workout. Fit a few laps around the dance floor into your plans if possible; all the while you'll be getting a complete all over body work out.

Continue with your present routine

If a morning run or walk or even a 20 minute routine of calisthenics is a part of your normal exercise regiment, keep up the routine. Calisthenics can be done right in your hotel room. If the location you're staying at permit's a morning run or walk, grab your Walkman and hit the road.

Maintaining your daily exercise program is important for good health and fitness. With a little ingenuity and discipline you can continue getting that daily dose of exercise; even when you're on the road.
