We interviewed The Citizen Senator from North Carolina, Mr. Open Minded, on this issue. These
were his reflections:
Interviewer: Senator, what are your thoughts on this years Democratic Campaign between
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama?
Senator: I believe that emotions are running high. We are in the process of creating
History by electing either a the first Women or African American Male to be
the Democratic Presidential Nominee.
Interviewer: Do you believe that most Americans vote with emotion or reason?
Senator: Emotion. I think we as a nation are very emotional. It is a shame
that we do not reason more before we make decisions that will decide
our future.
Interviewer: Which of these candidates do you endorse?
Senator: You know when it all began I was leaning towards Hillary. I had alot of
respect for her husband, former President Bill Clinton. I really thought
with his prosperous 2 terms, she would slide into the nomination. Of course,
I also liked John Edwards.
Interviewer: What about now?
Senator: The first time I saw Barack Obama walk up to the microphone and announce his
candidacy I thought to myself, who is this guy? Here was this Black Man about
my age and he had a Arabic name like Barack Obama. Immediately I decided this
guy didn't have a chance. Then I heard him speak. I watched as he brought in
larger crowds and awoke the youth of a nation to Presidential Politics. I
slowly became a fan.
Interviewer: Do you think Obama is the soul reason for the impressive Democratic turnout?
Senator: No. I think he is a big part of it, but I think Democrats are coming out
because they can't take four more years of the same.
Interviewer: Do you think Obama can win the nomination and then defeat John McCain in the
general election?
Senator: Let me first say that, I have always thought we were close to seeing a Female
run and win the presidency. I knew Hillary had that capability. It goes back
to emotion. I am going to touch some nerves here. I am going to bring up the
R-word. No one wants to bring it up and discuss it, but here it is. Lets face
the facts, we have a long history of racism in this country. Period. You can't
debate it. There are some older white males who are not going to vote for a
black man come hell or high water. I am a white male by the way and I think
our opportunity has come to set aside that emotional prejudice and use good
reason. I don't want to see people vote for obama because he is Black, but I
don't want them to not vote for him because he is either. Use reason and vote
for him because he is the right choice for change.
Interviewer: Do you believe America is ready for that?
Senator: I believe in America. I believe that we can change the way we think and act.
I believe we can walk out of the dark ages and show the world that we truly
are a leader of the free world who leads by example, that we choose our leader
by content and not by the color of their skin.
Interviewer: What advice do you give our voters out there?
Senator: Simply, vote with reason and not with emotion.
